Tax-Free Childcare: Budget announcement

As the chancellor confirmed in the budget, tax-free childcare will shortly be rolling out. this follows the current trial, through which we are testing the service with parents.

Tax-free childcare will be introduced from next month, in a controlled way. it will then gradually roll out - parents of younger children will be able to apply first and all eligible parents will be able to benefit by the end of this year. parents will be able to apply for all of their children at the same time, when their youngest child qualifies.

The budget text can be read in full here:

Parents will be able to apply for both tax-free childcare and 30 hours free childcare at the same time, through a joint childcare service. parents can now sign up to receive an email update which will notify them when they are able to apply.

There is no change in the position of employer-supported childcare. as announced at budget 2016 employer supported childcare will remain open to new entrants until april 2018, to support the transition between the two schemes. while schemes may continue after april 2018 the tax and nics reliefs, offered by such schemes, will no longer be available to new entrants. workplace nurseries are unaffected by this announcement.

We will announce further details about tax-free childcare and the wider government childcare offer soon.
